Artist Biography
Thomas Davies was born in Shorter’s Hill, England, in 1737. After joining the Royal Military Academy, he was posted in Halifax, Canada. His talents as a draughtsman gave him the opportunity to assist on a survey around Lake Ontario.
Davies produced some of the first accurate visual accounts of many places in Eastern Canada.
He returned to England and pursued an interest in natural history. He eventually returned to North America to help the British in the American Revolution, followed by a prolonged posting in Quebec City.
Eventually returning to England, he died in 1812.
